How to Connect Your YouTube Channel to Your Website

Have you always wanted to host your own YouTube channel to make videos for your business? Perhaps you want to create “how-to” videos, product demos or connect and build a wider audience. Regardless of the reason, we’ve created this guide on how to create a YouTube channel and link it to your website to increase your traffic, views and broaden your audience and customer base.

Remember when the television killed the radio star? Well, video has become one of the best ways to create content for businesses. Don’t miss out of the wave of customers you can gain by starting a YouTube channel today.

4 Reasons Your Business Needs a YouTube Channel

#1: Encourage customers and your audience to learn about your products

The simplest types of videos to create are product videos. These videos can be simple 1-minute or 2-minute that showcase your best and hottest products.

If you’re a clothing company, for example, you can create a video different people wearing your new clothing line or showcase popular styles.

If you’re a technology company, why not create short video tutorials showing people how to use your products and services. Then, when you’ve accumulated a number of these product videos, you can add them to a playlist— this makes it easy for customers/viewers to check out all of your products in one place.

#2: Develop a reputation for thought leadership and expertise in your niche

Another popular video type on YouTube is the “how-to” video. These can be very simple and short – such as how to [do something].

If your website sells products you can do a quick “How to install or build {insert product name}– video is very influential in helping to establish your reputation and expertise in your business niche.

After finding and watching your YouTube videos, another business or brand might invite you to speak at a conference or TedX Talk. Or you might get asked to become a guest contributor for a popular blog thanks to your online reach and quality content.

#3: Enhance your overall brand awareness and messaging

Some YouTube videos fall under the theme of branding and marketing. For example, to highlight your company’s focus on recycling and eco-sustainability, you can create an interview video of the company’s founder, who can explain the numerous ways the company is working to reduce its carbon footprint like recycling. Or a video, to highlight your workplace as a great place for young millennials to work. You could potentially create a video showing some of the fun, young, creative people already working at your company.

#4: Gain free word-of-mouth buzz for your products

This next step is perhaps the trickiest one to navigate when starting and publishing videos to your YouTube channel – but it is what people usually think of when they hear “YouTube videos.”

The key to a viral video is coming up with a creative concept that is so impossible to ignore that people will have to share it with your friends across their social channels. The tricky part, however, is that it’s nearly impossible to predict what will go viral and what won’t, and brands risk looking very foolish trying too hard to “look cool.” But when it works, well, it works.

For example, until Dollar Shave Club came along, the way you sold razor blades was touting all the great technology of the blades.

Understanding a video’s viral coefficient will take lots of creativity, ingenuity and innovation and a heap load of trial and error but you just need one viral video to land your company as an expert in your business niche.

How to Create a new channel on YouTube

First, you begin with a Google Account. You can create a specific company Google account for using YouTube and you can watch, like videos, comment on other videos and subscribe to channels.

However, without a YouTube channel, you have no public presence on YouTube meaning no one will know your company until you start posting videos.

Even if you have a Google Account, you need to create a YouTube channel to upload videos, comment, or make playlists. Creating a channel is easy and you can use a computer or the YouTube mobile site to create a new channel.

Create a personal channel

The following instructions will help you create a channel that only you can manage using your Google Account.

  • Sign in to YouTube on a computer or using the mobile site.
  • You can try any action that requires a channel, such as uploading a video, posting a comment, or creating a playlist.
  • If you don’t have a channel yet, you’ll see a prompt to create a channel.
  • Check the details (with your Google Account name and photo) and confirm to create your new channel.
  • Create your channel with a business or other name

Follow these instructions to create a channel that can have multiple managers or owners.

You can use a Brand Account to create a channel that has a different name but that’s still managed from your Google Account. Learn more about Brand Accounts.

  1. Sign in to YouTube on a computer or using the mobile site.
  2. Go to your channel list.
  3. Choose to create a new channel or use an existing Brand Account:
  4. Create a new channel by clicking Create a new channel.

Create a YouTube channel for a Brand Account that you already manage by choosing the Brand Account from the list.

If this Brand Account already has a channel, you can’t create a new one—you’ll just be switched over to that channel if you select the Brand Account from the list.

Fill out the details to name your new channel and verify your account. Then, click Done. This creates a new Brand Account.

To add a channel manager, follow the instructions to change channel owners and managers.
